I just use decking oil once or twice a year.Mine is hardwood if that makes any difference.
it does that soft wood stuff is terrible!I just use decking oil once or twice a year.Mine is hardwood if that makes any difference.
petrol burns better, but sanding disks give a better finish.Cover in petrol or disel and ignite.
you can do the underneath and the joists with genuine creosote then do the top and sides with oil based wood treatmentLike daleyd, i pressure washed mine. I have a diesel steam pressure washer. It came up like new. Let it dry (few sunny days) and paint with something decent. Theres a thread on here somewhere of mine showing how it cleaned up.
I did the fences with proper coal tar creosote. I would do the deck with it too if I thought people wouldnt walk on it with no shoes on!!
Just do it when you know a good few sunny days are due to beat down on it. I couldnt beleive how effective it was when i did it. It seemed completely counterintuitive to use high pressure water on wood but it came up a treat.Reckon I'm getting the picture a good clean, pressure wash and then oil
Many hours have been spent varnishing deck boards pre fitting.I am no paintist but can painting anything in the way of a varnish or sealer on the top side of wood last if the underside can take in moisture

Can't imagine Mrs S being impressed though
Next question: What to put on the deck instead of the crummy ronseal?
