Is the condensate pigtails open, or would you fit a tap?
Would feel odd to leave it open but gas flow may mean that draws air in rather than let's gas out.

Shouldn’t let air in as it’s a pigtail. It’ll always have a plug of condensation in it. Or at least it should do. We always leave them open but they just drip into the bilge so no harm done.
Can’t think it would matter in real terms but I’d leave it open as that’s how they are designed

I hadn't twigged that it will work like a u bend and hold some liquid.
That's good then. If I get one I'll try not to run the exhaust high, but at least I know it's doable if needed.

So lesson #1 ordering the diesel heater is to be sure what model you order.
Mine turned up last night and has the old fashioned potentiometer controller with no remote. I thought I'd been diddled until I looked closely at the pictures:
(note - "remote" control in that it's not mounted directly on the unit)
No biggie for me as I'd only be controlling it in the garage and have no desire (and a fear!) of turning it on and off from afar. But something to watch out for.
This variant cost me £89 on amazon and was here 48 hours after ordering. More info soon...

Some folk say you need to purge / prime them by submerging in a bucket of water before you fit them but I’ve never bothered.

I have a nasty feeling that the so called smart meters might well have the facility , if not now then in the future, to "talk " to whatever gadget it is supplying Lekky to and charge accordingly. Thus spawning a whole new industry of dodgy interconnectors to fool the meters.They can't charge electric at a different rate for cars - you can't exactly dye it red
It will mean pay per mile for all road users - God help those in rural areas!
look at it from the other side - once you have a smart meter cheap overnight power is easy to do, so you can set your car to charge overnight while it's cheap
and even better... on demand charging will become a thing (so price varies with the demand on the grid) - your smart charger will change rate of charge depending on the load on the grid (easy to do monitoring grid frequency)
and... the grid people/electric people really wants this too because it makes their job much easier, and works well with renewables

I admit I'm only guessing but I'm sure that within the 2/3 thousand micro chips built into the cars electronics one ,or more, will be able to communicate with the grid and identify itself as a vehicle .

Of course it is possible but it would need perhaps a Chinese or Korean car maker to install such a system just to please HMRC - doubt that will happen. Road charging will be the answer sadly.

Same as when they banned normal light bulbs they didn't allow for the fact the waste heat helped keep people's houses warm.
Along with the people who keep banging on about the energy wasted by things on standby. Firstly we are talking about milliwatts and again the tiny bit of heat again adds to your heating. Why not ban electric heaters which consume many KW?

Apparently it’s co efficient of productivity. Who knew. A bar heater had CoP of one. At best. So 1kw in = 1kw out. A air source heat pump is 4 so 1kw of electricity produces 4kw of heat.

I know 3 people with them - huge electric bills! Give me oil or gas any day. Until we have mass nuclear with cheap electric and then I will happily switch.
Electric 22p per kw/h - oil and gas around 3 to 4p per kw/h - that is FIVE times cheaper!
