They can't charge electric at a different rate for cars - you can't exactly dye it red
It will mean pay per mile for all road users - God help those in rural areas!

The new plan apparently with red is to phase it out and then rebate those who claim it for a legit use. I think it’s a good idea as it’ll cut down on crime.

They could charge different rates for the electric. My heating is on a different rate to the rest of the house so it’s easily done

The problem is who will use more expensive electric in their cars? Very easy to switch to a cheap supply. Just charge your car off cheaper electric or even a generator running red.
As regards red diesel it seems it will still be allowed for farmers - forestry equipment - boats and domestic use. Just banned for industry and construction - yet more increased costs and inflation!

My mate swapped out the petrol engine on his golf and fitted a diesel and run it on red, never got stopped once by the ministry

That method was phased out 60 years ago when red diesel was invented!

Not sure which crime it will cut down on.

People pikeys nicking it out of tanks I’d think. Especially when they cut holes in the tanks to do so

All construction plant is to run on white diesel next year ,that wont make just about every bit of plant that litters sites/motorways a target for fuel theft will it , dishing out crime report numbers is going to keep another few hundred chair polishers within the police force busy.

There was even a diesel Capri running around Scotland for a while. 1.8TD from memory.

Not sure to be honest. People nick red from tanks and plant now and those that do don’t seem to give a toss about running on it. White is easier to shift mind. Although geofencing is getting more and more mainstream with plant left overnight. Plenty of lorries get their tanks drained in certain lay-bys overnight. The A14 is / was notorious for it

Worse still the companies losing all the white diesel will be claiming back the rebate, that puts customs and excise back to where they started but with no chance of catching anyone. There will be digger,dumper and forklift drivers up and down the country running about with fuel in their tanks thats had the vat and duty claimed back on.

The exhausts on these Chinese heaters, does it always have to run downhill? Or could it go up a couple of foot above the heater?

Mate runs his exhaust through a long 150mm pipe, there can be condensation in that, but the pipe is a good radiator for the wast exhaust heat, runs it on 32sec fuel.
The instructions are a bit Cinglish, read the bit about bleading fuel for 1st time saves a lot of angst.
He has had 2/3 years at least

How will that change anything? They will carry on just as they do now. They don’t care whether their vehicles are running on red or white.

I was thinking about folk ive known who have both on site. Generally white is more secured than the red from what I’ve seen. Removing the colour does have the problem of proving origin right enough.

I think people will start dying their own. RMC Roadstone used to dye theirs orange, for example

They used to dye site petrol blue in Port Talbot steelworks. Of course the ministry never dip petrol cars and with anti syphon devices on all cars neither do their security guards.

Note condensate pigtail for uphill exhaust. It’s recommended to go down but in a boat it’s not normally doable
