Stanley powerlock used them decades. BTW all tapes need calubration regularly the ends get bent and wearI hate tape measures but they seem to be a necessary evil for anything bigger than a meter or so.
All the ones I've bought before either don't spring back, or the switch knackers and they always want to spring back. The tape bit gets twisted, the end bit seems to have a tolerance of +/- 37ft...
But then I only ever buy £6.99 jobs out of B&Q...
Any recommendations for not a ton of money? Maybe twenty quid or so?
I've been told a story about an apprentice window fitter who hammered the rivets tight on the ends because they were loose.....knocking the measurements out, I dunno if that's true or how much tolerance there is fitting windows but I've been told this story more than a few timesStanley powerlock used them decades. Arrived today - certainly seems a lot more solid than the £5.99 ones I normally buy
By the time mine would require calibration there fit for scrap anyway.I've been told a story about an apprentice window fitter who hammered the rivets tight on the ends because they were loose.....knocking the measurements out, I dunno if that's true or how much tolerance there is fitting windows but I've been told this story more than a few times
I still wince when I order a new one but I'll order another when the two current ones give up without thoughtI've been told a story about an apprentice window fitter who hammered the rivets tight on the ends because they were loose.....knocking the measurements out, I dunno if that's true or how much tolerance there is fitting windows but I've been told this story more than a few times
I've only ever bought cheaper ones too - these 8m ones look good!
Will give them a try mate.I have the Advent and it’s a great tale from a British company, all metric and printed both sides. Better quality than the cheaper Fatmax (I have one somewhere!) but slimmer and more pocketable than the Fatmax extreme version.
It’s on the site linked above, nice site...

Think i paid a fair bit more, but possibly from CEF so not surprising.
I'd read about the pro / xtreme being ultra bulky but it turns out it's the same size as my crummy B&Q 8m oneWe use the black and yellow Stanley ones at work. Cheap enough and reliable... not so bulky they don't fit in your pockets either.
