Being switched on is not something I've ever been accused of before Nick. Some of those old navy DO reports Spring to mind .... Out of his depth in a puddle, he will go far - but only if transport is provided etc etc

My DO appraisals was alot worse mate so don't worry. Red type!!! got my tractor license suspended for damaging the side of a seaking as someone had routed the power cable thru a hanger vent. Got Scale A pay suspended for driving tractor too fast also and punishment for threatening to punch my leading hands lights out. That's just for starters...

Well I suggested the Lincoln 170s pal but there are plenty inverters to choose from as previously suggested on this thread by Dale & Rich etc. or you can take the Chinese gamble from rubberdog****.com for a couple hundred quid and hope to hell it works....good luck

I was in a similar quandary last summer. I wanted a stick inverter (about 150 amps and not fussed about tig function) but which to get? Didn't want to spend £600+ so ruled out fronious, ewm, and lorch. I was willing to stretch to £400ish so Kempi miniarc 150, miller 160, and Lincoln invertec 150 were just about within budget. These machines are about twice the likes of parweld 160, easab buddyarc or thermal arc 175 but are they worth the extra?
I then went to the isle of man for the classic tt/manx gp which was fantastic! Whilst there I broke my collar bone though, and ended up off work for 4 weeks so never got round to getting the welder.
definitely want one this year but will take a few months to save! Would be good to have a machine to aim for so any advice would be appreciated.

I've had my par weld for 4 years and it's been a great welder. Never been a problem and it's had some abuse. It's usually sitting in a load of cow crap welding farm gear. Wipe the worst off and throw it in the back of the van till the next time. I think it was only £200 off weldequip.

I would agree with the above!
I have used a Transpocket 1500 that my mate owns and it is very good (plus the housing it is in just feels right).
But I really like the Kemppi Miniarc EVO180 I bought at £560 inc VAT
I think the current price for a Transpocket 1500 is £692 inc VAT
I have been buying Kemppi of late for our workshops when we need new welders. I used to always buy Miller (but got fed up with the repairs).
I think I choose the little Kemppi inverter on the basis of:
30 more amps, same duty cycle @120 amps, it has a digital display, it was £130 cheaper (4x good reasons).

I used an old transpocket 1400 MV for many years on site and it spent it's life sucking in cement dust grinding dust been dragged around dropped etc. It would run a 2.5 low high at 100 amps (full current on the scale on 110v 16 amp supply) on site all day. Not many units perform like this on a low 110v supply. Was an awesome bit of kit and I'll be that company still has it in use
