recommend a vise/vice?

i did a bit of looking but this seems to just be an absolute minefield. Im looking for a vice, ideally not made of cheese, id like an anvil on it...with a horn if possible. super extra bonus for a swivel base. im not sure of jaw size but i expect bigger is better? Im assuming old records are the way forward but i have no clue.....and id like to spend as little as possible i.e under £100 if possible.

Im not building bridges, just a bit of hobby, garage stuff, filing, grinding, bending thinnish material etc.

Any recommendations you fine folks have? I did check out marketplace and fleabay but it just all seems a bit wishy washy

I've got one of these spare in the 160mm size if you fancy something nice..
I don't think it's got the swivle base on it though..

that sounds like a fine idea, probably wont be until after Christmas though, im only half hour from FrUme / FrOme or however on gods green earth its pronounced.

That's fine, most of them are buried in the back of a container so that gives me time to have a rummage.
There might be one with a swivel base..

By fortune, Saturday is ideal as I need to head that way.

I can do Frome in early Jan as I need to head there then also.

Any (non toy size) vice with a decent block of steel or a piece of round bar in the jaws is an anvil or a horn....just in case that helps your thought process.

Quick release would be my non negotiable.

I didn't even consider putting round bar in the vice jaws, that's genius.....or I'm just slow

Quick release if it works well, I have a record 52 1/2 and the QR slips which is annoying at best

A vice with a properly function QR setup is bliss to use. So much nicer than winding in & out if you're working on various size pieces frequently, but unnecessary if your pieces are all within a similar range of size.

I put a D-shackle on the Swindens, which makes working with a standard screw much nicer, & a rod through the shackle gives you that extra nip, if needed.

They are very good vices though, by all accounts.

Record 74 is my go to and has everything you ask for, offset jaws, anvil horn, swivel base. Plenty on eBay for £50-60 last a lifetime.
