Recent MOT Changes?

My mot is due just after the change but I’m taking it early, not because I think I will fall foul of the new rules but because I don’t want it to be one of the first cars the tester has after they change

The car was new & under warranty, FiL backed it to main dealer that supplied it numerous times over years, no problem found or was fixed no quibbles, but still that light came on. We had it off him when it was 9 years old & it still did it at least once a year. Drove perfectly & never let us down. Black tape worked fine!

Took my bike in last week and it had a "MAJOR" fail!
It was a missing 1" reflector on the back light.....
It's an import so doesn't have one built into the rear lamp assembly. It must have fallen off.
On another note I'm so glad I got rid of the Zafira before a lit engine management light becomes a fail!
It would never of seen the open road again!

How people can think an engine management light is ok, Is beyond me! Idiots

We had the engine management light come on on a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon, neither myself or the main dealers could get the diagnostics to talk to the ECU or reset it.
It drove fine, passed the emissions with flying colours and the ABS worked perfectly.
How on earth did people cope before engine management systems (tongue in cheek smiley).

I question if that the ability of the so called technician, They have all the kit & the technical info. But don't know how to use it! Thats why independent specialist garages are getting repeat business.

How I read it, your car fails, so any existing mot is invalid, you take it home, arrange repair at a garage, they cannot do it for a few days, how do you get it there as you have no valid mot? The fail now takes immediate effect.

The dangerous fail leaves the vulnerable possibly open to the unscrupulous testers touting for work. I know they are rare, but we all know of them!

There is no method in law to invalidate an existing MOT.

IF they put a dangerous marker on it it is just reinforcing the existing law re driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
That has always been the case.
