Rebuilt a R380 gearbox, couldn't get one bearing so used britpart one. Box lasted 500miles, when I dorpped the oil, it looked like silver paint

I replace lots of bearings at work, our supplier uses mainly FAG and NTN witch seem very reliable, SKF and NSK are good. But sadly I don't see many Timken bearings these days, mainly only odd size specials.

I bought some of these off ebay too. there's some play in them, but I just chucked one in the vice and it took a bit then cracked, no real plastic deformation, just a brittle crack. put a hacksaw to it too and its hard. I must've got lucky - which is good, because I bought about 60!

I can check who mine were off if anyone's interested? I cant imagine I would have bought them if they weren't cheap. they were definitely roller skate bearings.

bed frames, the good ones would kill a hacksaw blade

Modern bed frames could probably kill a hacksaw blade these days - if the blade was of similar quality to the bearings discussed

A good friend sadly no longer with us had a BMW R100RS and was always telling us how good German engineering was compared to our cheap Jap bikes, I was giving him a hand to change his wheel bearings and enjoyed the look on his face when he saw "made in Japan" on the bearing as he drifted it out

Just for the exercise earlier tonight I drifted the bearings out of the front wheel I wrote off in a bike crash in June; they are NTN and I can't detect any wear, play or notchiness in them, and they'd done 44500 miles before I unceremoniously planted them into a steel post.
