Tinting Raptor with metallic is going to end up looking crap as it will be different to the rest of the car. Bear in mind you can clearly see the sills on a mini. You mentioned about 3 coats of base and 3 of clear do you mean on the exterior of the floors as well as the top side..as I was gunna tint the raptor and leave at that?
Oh without sounding stupid how crap would it look and how do I get around this problem lolTinting Raptor with metallic is going to end up looking crap as it will be different to the rest of the car. Bear in mind you can clearly see the sills on a mini.
Oh thats a bugger thanks for the adviceIt would look really bad in my opinion, tinting it with a direct gloss comes out OK ish but it's very matt with no gloss.
With a metallic base coat it's going to look poor.
Best option is to use a black Raptor and the 3 coats of cherry red, then 3 coats of clear coat. It will come out looking like the top side
I've not used jotakastic but what drit would depend on how you are applying it.Thanks bert what grade would you use to key and will the jotamastic need longer than 48 hours to cure (its just in a unit it hasn't been in a oven or anything) before I start keying it thanks.
nice work, what setup did you use for spraying jotun? Maybe you have closer photos? I'm about to do mine, looking for smooth as possible finish, yet to decide jotun 87 or 80 for this kind of job.
There is a write up on here somewhere for painting jotamastic 87 which is basically what I followed.nice work, what setup did you use for spraying jotun? Maybe you have closer photos? I'm about to do mine, looking for smooth as possible finish, yet to decide jotun 87 or 80 for this kind of job.
Yep. This time of year you can spray the raptor after about 1hr after the jotamastic has flashed off. Getting the raptor on while the jotamastic is soft ensures a good bond between the two is my thinking. I did the my current project the next day.Overnight is fine.
If it cloggs the paper it isn't fully cured so won't need keying but it will be good for the next coat.
If it's just a few days it will be fine and won't need keying but as said, it won't do any harm.
You want the paint layers to cure and bond together.
If you want a really smooth finish consider lechler or Novol or similar. They lay really nice and easier to get a good flat finish. Lechler isn't that much more expensive than Jotamastic and is a very good epoxy primer also.nice work, what setup did you use for spraying jotun? Maybe you have closer photos? Maybe I'll try that on body panels, for the underside epoxy mastic will be the choice! Thanks for advice, never thought this forum will be that helpful! If you want a really smooth finish consider lechler or Novol or similar. They lay really nice and easier to get a good flat finish. Really, oh I thought I could just base coat on top of the raptor..If you leave the raptor to go off before painting you will need to spray a coat of etch primer before paint but you won't have to sand it.
