Hi,
My car had a new panel welded in to repair the fuel door aperture. The car is a Corrado but the panel is a mk2 golf part. The bodyshop that did the work hasn't done a great job overall on the car and I've since had to strip the car down back to a shell and re-build it, learnt to weld and paint as it went rusty in places as it was treated to filler rather than proper metal work. Lesson learnt and they won't be touching any of my cars again. Since I've learnt so much I figured I'd have a go at the next irratation...
.. The fuel door welded panel hasn't been positioned right - you can just about see in the pictures below that the top right corner causes the door to sit proud of the body line. What sort of body tools would I need to use to push it inwards? I figure where my finger points to the screw is where I need shape the metal work inwards? I'm holding the door out slightly to mimick the true close position as I have taken the fuel tank out and locking mechanism out.
If it can't be done I'll leave it. The Corrado is quite a gappy car when it comes to panel gaps etc. I plan to have a whole new 3/4 panel installed in time as I am not happy with the arch work and no repair panels available. Need to save some money up first.
Cheers
Matt
