Yeah, I've heard that too. I've sorted the Earth etc on the machine and have a 100ma RCD on the way
I should add it didn't trip all day yesterday and hasn't so far today. The only other thing I have done so far is untie the single insulated wires so they aren't near the motor body anymore.

A bit naughty (you probably know it). I would leave that in its box and inspect the wires for chafes, or otherwise locate the fault. The 30mA rating is to help prevent a fatal shock.have a 100ma RCD on the way

Agree with above, wants sorting properly and rewiring and enclosing.
The 100mA RCD might protect the machine or cabling, but as far as safety goes you may as well not have one for all the good it will do you!
If it is tripping 30mA, there is a problem somewhere.
If you can't get somebody to test it, you could try swapping the RCD for another one (30mA) just in case it is a bit marginal, but don't fit a 100mA to fix the problem.
It could be an issue with the motor - it really wants an insulation resistance check to see if it is leaking anything to earth as the first port of call.
It could also be an issue with the capacitor - sometimes start up on these motors can upset RCDs
It might even be some spurious fault with the building wiring, which only shows up under certain conditions.
Have you tried it on a different circuit, if you have one available?
I'd say work through the problem logically to find the fault rather than just replace bits to try and hide it.
