Hi Guys,
Was chatting with the next door neighbour earlier, lovely chap, retired cabinet maker and a pretty handy machinist too.
A couple of years ago he had a proper sparky in to wire up his garage for using as a workshop. It isn't particularly big but it is bigger than the shed he was using. He's got a Wylex 6 or 8 way CU in there running out to I suppose 7 or 8 double sockets (he has a lot of equipment in there - small band saw, hobby lathe, pillar drill etc!) from 2 x 32A MCB's and an 8A MCB for lighting.
Anyway, he mentioned that this morning he changed one of his sockets because the switch had gone 'a bit wobbly' and was a little surprised when, despite tripping both the power MCB's, the RCD tripped (so turning everything dark!) when he was taking the neutral cables out of the old socket. He thinks they may have touched the casing of the socket (metal backed) but didn't understand why that should have happened.
Now, I'm no electrician, but that seems a little odd to me too. Should that have happened?
