Bloody hell.
Two nights ago heard something under the bed 3ish in the morning.
Well, assumed mice, don't mind occasional mouse.
It's flooding round here incidentally.
We had rats when we bought the house 5 years ago, we poisoned them, no issues since.
Couple of hours ago, I 'thought' I saw something out of the corner of my eye dart across the floor, mouse? Wasn't sure.
Seen it again, not a mouse, deffo a rat.
Any other realistic options apart from poison.
We can rule out fire arms.
Ears open, thoughts please folks, thanks. No food except dog bowls available.
Ive hit one with a .22 air rifle....the pellet bounced off.....kills Magpies thoughGood luck hitting a moving rat - luck will play a part if you manage it.
Edit to add - just had a vision of you sat by the Rayburn, empty bottle of brandy nearby, popping off at a sniggering, half poisoned ratty....
@barking mat will ratty be on the zoom chat?
Assuming it does the decent thing and dies in an accessible place if you PM me your address I'll endeavour to beat the bureaucracy and ship it to you to add to your collection.
If the rat dies inside the cavity you will be wearing a mask for the following two weeks-the stench is horrendous.Going to buy a load of poison tomorrow, and order rat traps, I've seen it coming in through the back door, it's not in the wall, but he's coming up through, or has, under the bed, I know there's a hole, I've not finished the flooring. One, ok, but they breed, so I'll nip it in the bud now. Thanks @brightspark and @mtt.tr .
I asked a similar question, never got a replyDid we have an accessible member' list in the previous incarnation of the Forum? Where is it now?

Had to pick up a car that had a pet rat die somewhere in the dash, drove it mid winter with snow on the ground with all the windows open the smell was so bad. One of my brothers worked at a place with a rat problem, they put down bowls of plaster of Paris mixed with breadcrumbs and another bowl of water , he swore it worked
That's very kind but it should be dealt with by the time it arrives, kind offer though. What have you started?
Lived here 31 years backing onto fields for the first 15.
Very occasional mouse, the odd fox, a few sexdecillion gulls but never a rat.
Until lunchtime today when I saw a sleek modest-sized one feeding at the bird's fat balls.
Click and Collect at Screwfix and one of these now lives under the bird feeder - which has been raised out of rat-reach, I hope.

ball bearings in my brothers pistol, co2 powered, hence my fear for the windows.Ive hit one with a .22 air rifle....the pellet bounced off.....kills Magpies though
Since then someone told me I was using the wrong pellets so ive got different ones but no Rats to try on (none that Ive seen anyway)
I remember Ratty, lot of old members seem to have floated away.Did we not have a female member called Ratty or something like? A long running virtual Pub long predating @Parm ?

Ahh, no internet out there ?Weren’t they in Oz or New Zealand? Moved out there.
no shortage of it over here.I'll bet the French won't want poison being shipped in, let alone the Post Office.
traps didn't look very good the ones I was today. If the rat dies inside the cavity you will be wearing a mask for the following two weeks-the stench is horrendous.
If you make a wooden box like a tunnel and place a mk 4 trap inside, you won't need to use any bait.
pass....I asked a similar question, never got a reply
yeah, rat fans....You beat me to it, I was about to ask Mat if Roland was going to make a guest appearance tonight
Ive given up trying to order stuff from blighty at thé moment. It's not happening.
