Rapidor hacksaw magazine article

There is an article in this months (july,no.204) "model engineers workshop" magazine about repairing and improving a rapidor hacksaw. I know a few lads on here have rapidors so it maybe of interest.

To be honest I feel the same about most of the model engineering magazines, I don't have much of an interest in model making but what else can someone who is generally into general metal bashing in sheds buy ? I only buy them when there is some article I want to read.

Where do you buy them as a one off though? I've never seen the in stock at any newsagents.

I subscribed to ME last year as I thought my dad was eventually blowing off the dust from the model steam engine castings he bought 20 years ago, however he got as far as getting them out of the drawer before deciding he would rather renovate his Velocette Venom.

I haven't seen them on the shelf either, however I haven't really been looking.

I have no problems buying it in Dublin newsagents, strange you can't buy it in uk ones.

There's loads of magazine starting with "Practical" such as Classic cars, performance cars, electronics, but not Engineering. I think Practical Engineering merged with Model Engineering magazine some years ago.

He fits a clutch to a saw that wasn't fitted with one and replaces the motor, it was a saw that was used in the maintenance workshop of a brickworks. I don't know if they will do more work on it in future issues.

mine never had the clutch and pulley so i put a microswitch on worked through a starting contactor to stop it when finished cutting

On a tangent regarding the Minor model, how heavy are they, approximately? Just wondering if it'd be feasible to transport one in the back of a saloon vehicle, weight wise? Should be feasible size wise if the legs were removed, but not sure about the weight side of things. The truck is off the road for the time being due to having a knacked auto transmission, so my current runabout vehicle is a '94 Granada Ghia, hence the question.

Cheers. The rear suspension should just about cope then. I drive like an old fart at the best of times, so excess cornering speed whilst weighted shouldn't be a problem.

I moved a Rapidor major 160 miles in the back of my Octavia!

It'd be going in the back with the rear seats down, to spread the load around. Even did that with the Surf, and that never broke a sweat regardless of what I lugged in the back. The rear door of that does bear the scuff marks from trying to shimmy the large Rapidor in off forklift tines though.
