i didnt think to check the mig wire

I’ve got an old t shirt soaked in wd40 which I tuck round the reel whenever it’s not in use.

It’s a long standing habit from years back when I’d go to sea for long periods. Just kept doing it.

Opened up the welder today to check the wire reel..glad i did as it was very damp. Took the reel off and moved it into the house until i need it or weather humidity gets better.

Good shout - I'm still drying out the shed and garage as I just can't drive the lingering moisture out, but hadn't even thought to open up the case and take a peek. Dreading what I'll find now

My workshop is not suffering from this which is kind of what I expected as it is an old stone building with 2-3ft thick walls and the temperature fluctuates slowly. I am right at the edge of the sea so the air is full of salt but it is really only the stuff right at the door that suffers from rust. The plasma shed however is a steel container and with the water table it is usually dripping constantly from the roof but weirdly it is bone dry and has been since the hard frost.

Best thing about the power being off in the garage is I can't see the full extent of the condensation / damage Briefly went in there last night and even the head torch was playing up! Might have a crack at fault finding tomorrow.

I really must order that all RCBO CU for the house.

I only had a smidge of rust on the lathe tail stock and top slide, so presumed I’d escaped.
Went in this morning and found a rusty faceplate in the metal cabinet and rust on the morse taper drills, but only on the tapers.
It seems that very smooth surfaces attract rust.

I'll wait for the condensation to evaporate again.

for me its a bit like shovelling snow, if you wait long enough it goes without you needing to do anything.

its all evaporated now, nothing exposed has any more rust than it did before........looks like the light coating of oil is the best defence rather than clearing the rust up afterwards, if I havnt gone into my garage for a spanner at the beginning of the week, I would never have know the condensation was this bad.
