A boring update, I wire wheeled all these parts. There are so many more linkages to sort through, but this is a start.
Also in the news, a spanner came in the post, this huge 2RB Britool Whitworth one. Next to it is the biggest spanner they made. I don’t have a use for it but it’s nice to have.

More wire wheeled bits.
I fettled the threads last night with the gas and a piece of pipe, getting the shape back a bit. The nuts were almost rusted on and were bending the threaded bar when I removed them (bad) so now the nuts spin freely and the thread is back, chased them with an ancient adjustable die. It’s times like those that I raise and eyebrow and think wow, it was worth hanging onto those old things!

Special Sunday bumper edition.
The pieces that hold this bar on were crimped over so I heated them and bent them back. This, of course, fried the paint, but I can redo that.
The bolts which hold the bar on snapped when I removed them, and as luck would have they’re the same size as the clutch bolts from the other machine (now scrapped), but needed a bit more thread cutting.
The next bits of the handlebar assembly were sandblasted.
I then took the machine for a walk outside and swept underneath it, so the project is a bit tidier.

The acid did a great number on these bits, I plunged them into primer along with the rest of the frame now I could move the strops forward.
Low effort today, bad news on the complaint thing, they’ve totally ignored my safety concerns and gone straight to the disciplinary process. I’m not happy, I’m going to try again with the union, it’s a total mess and it’s mucked up my morale for the job but this is the road they wanted to take, and this is the road we will travel.
I’ve had drills and other tools thrown at me and ducked to miss them and been called all sorts and we laughed about it afterwards, I think the whole thing is a total farce. What is the world coming to…

I asked a friend out to dinner this morning, that’s far too short notice, so there you go. Women.
This left the evening free for a two hour nap, then it was tractor time. I’ve started mocking up the parts to get an idea of how it goes. Some of these pics are that process. That piece I pad welded today goes underneath the rotor lever bit I welded the other day.
I dug out the engine casing to see how it would look on the front. I screwed the cowling on for fun, too. I keep tripping over it so it’s safer to have it bolted up.
The oil filter has seen better days, I might have to break out the sewing kit and make a new one.

Mini update. Can’t be bothered doing any painting tonight. I found this damaged plaque in a box of bits, it’s off the other machine as I remember breaking the one off this machine trying to save it!
A dip in the phosphoric acid had it looking beautiful again, then some plastic hammer work on the dollies had it in shape again. I’m the sort of person who saves old twist rivets, so two were pilfered and put back into use.
The head is also bathing in finest caustic soda, melting out the grease and dirt from between the cooling fins.

If the plaque is embossed you may be able to get some detail back by applying a thin coat of black paint then wiping across the face while still wet.

If it's that faint, try a very thin cloth round something like a steel rule edge as anything too thick/absorbent will probably wipe off all the paint.
