An appeal to the sparks onboard...
The Crabtree RCCB in our consumer unit which serves the outbuildings and septic tank aerator pump is tripping, apparently randomly, and possibly spuriously. Details/diagnostics so far:
House built in 2007, CU and RCB are originals from then.
Weeks or months can pass with no trips; then there can be a two or three per day over several days, then nothing for weeks again.
No obvious correlation with weather, season, temperature or appliances being used in the outbuildings (garage and office). The only exception is that following use of the treadmill it does seem more prone to tripping. However, with the treadmill unplugged, tripping still happens.
I opened the septic tank aerator pump MCB to see if that might be culprit, but tripping still occurs.
The MCB covering the heating circuit is for the boiler and local pump out in the garage. Tripping happens regardless of whether boiler is firing or not.
The 32A MCB caters for welders/compressor etc, used in and around the garage. Tripping has never occured when any of the the welders are in use.
Resetting the RCCB never results in a prompt re-trip. Often hours pass before the next trip. As noted above, they seem to come in waves over the course of a day or two.
Any advice or thoughts on this would be very much appreciated as it is now a total scunner!
Thanks
Michael
