Have you checked for gas leaks at the reg and at the welder too. You'll probable find there is a small leak leading to the excessive usage. Also chack the gauges are ok. And close off the bottle valve when done. I lost a 47l bottle that way

Definitely do this !!!!!
Not many systems are 100% leak free. You will lose gas leaving it open.

When I bought a TIG my first argon bottle was a 10L one and only lasted me a week of intermittent learning how to use it (not much as I don't like to waste gas if I am not actually making something). As the suppliers weren't handy for me I replaced it with a 20L bottle from the same place and that lasted me for around 18 months ? and did much more than twice the welding the 10L bottle did.
I use it inside mainly and set up at 6Lpm, I have bought a flow gauge with a indicator that floats on the air flow.
But I must admit I was quite worried at the gas used after the first week.

If you don't want to go for a rental bottle I would suggest an SGS rent free bottle. They are filled to 200 bar, they have 20l bottles and you get £20 cashback on your first bottle from the owner who's a member on here.
i looked at there website and called a few of there agents, i dont know why i did as i thought they would be the same price, or roughly atleast but thye are not, glad i did as the prices vary a lot, one was £195 in first surcharge and £85 refill and one was £120 inc £70 surcharge then £50 refill. local to me aswell, get twice what i am getting now.

That's a good price, I paid 210 euro which at the time was around £155! I worked out that using 1 bottle per year sgs is cheaper, using 2 bottles sgs & BOC volkszone are roughly the same (though BOC are filled to a higher pressure) and more than 2 BOC is cheaper.
The way I am looking at it is to go rent free for my first bottle and see how much I use. I have a rent free sgs bottle on my mig that I got back in 2014, the mig hasn't had much use due to my health. If I had a BOC bottle on it that would have been 2 years wasted rent!

Thats interesting. I am paying BOC rental on a W (approx £120 year) and about £28 a fill...............is the deal you have less money than that?

But the waters are muddied when deposits and refill prices come into the equation, Albee have a high deposit but you get more gas for a similar fee on the refill. However you need to use more gas before you claw back a saving over Adams etc. Or at least you did, the prices have gone up a bit now so I'd need to do some more current sums to see where the crossover point lies now. The other issue is the return on the deposit diminishes over time, 70% refund if you decide to return the bottle and call it quits after 3 months then lower and lower amounts until it drops to a flat 10% refund after two years and over or something.

Albee doesn't make much sense for the I weld once or twice year gang, its better for those that might go through 2-3 cylinders a year then sometimes only do 1. Not regular enough to justify the fixed cost of a rental, but not so much that the travelling to collect more frequently offsets the saving of the smaller cylinders.
