Railway station parking

I collect and drop my lad off on a regular basis at a station

You get 20 minutes "free" so I generally arrive 5 or so minutes before his train is due, to allow for any delays

Only had 1 ticket, I was there 45 minutes so I sent the screenshot showing the train was delayed and it was cancelled

As a practical matter, can you go back there at no cost to yourself and take a clear, legible photo of the displayed terms and conditions?

Until those are available for digestion by the experts here, everything else is hot air.

If it is going to cost you to do that, what is that cost in relation to the £7?

It could be hard to make a 'consideration time' argument stick if CCTV does not show you going anywhere near the notice board and reading it during your time there.

Council car park. They fulfilled their side of the bargain by providing you with the parking space you paid for - you just left early.

Can't see you'll get much joy unless whoever you speak to is retiring that day, had a really really good time last night, or is expecting a really really good time later

Yeah, it's just like me going back into Blockbusters Video Rental and asking for a refund as I never watched the movie.
I actually did that.
They kind of laughed.

Make your complaint in writing. I would say that it was perfectly valid to expect a refund. The seven minutes is within the consideration time, but it is an interesting one as you bought a ticket.

One angle might be that you were so concerned by the penalty warning that you bought the ticket regardless of your wish not to be bound by the terms "under duress". They WILL decline it the first time around as all parking parasites do. However being council, you might be able to refer the matter to the Traffic Commissioner. Payment by card also gives you Chargeback options if the Council want to play games.

It's not the value, but the principle here that matters.

I'm all for fighting for purchasing rights, but for the life of me I can't see why you would in this case.

Placed car in a council parking spot in a timely manner, paid the council, again in a timely manner, and then chose to leave before paid time expired.

Would you still try to claim it back if you'd paid to park in a council car park, with no link to a shop you intended to visit, walked to the shop and discovered it was closed, so walked back to car and drove off?

Now if you'd paid for a train ticket that included parking, arrived, parked, discovered no train, so left, then yes, I'd expect a full refund.
