There are a few members that make gates but I don't think there are a great number that do it as a business, spread over the whole of the UK means there may only be a small chance of one being in your locality and not all members come here on a regular basis.

Ok, driveway gates/railings?, budget or high end bespoke? prices range from £200-£3000+ per meter depending on style and it's not worth driving to Stafford for the wee stuff

However wants to take it on be careful, if you are taking money for it, this is a business contract that you are accountable/responsible for legally, without business insurance...... just sayin'

You are not wrong at all, it's just as I initially mentioned, the chances of one being close to you is not great.

I used to work the trade myself and the furthest I ever worked from my workshop was 8 miles, there was enough trade not to have to travel for work.

One suggestion I would make is put the request up on one of your local facebook groups, there is usually someone who provides an answer.

Unlikely just anyone will take on a little job making gates and railings anymore, not sure if there is any restrictions on gates/fencing. Not worth the recourse against you unless you're set up properly with public / products liability. Find a local fabrication company.

I may well be wrong about this, so apologies if I am...

I've been asked the same sort of question before - "I want something like this done, I can get the materials".

After going out, measuring up, figuring out what materials are required and giving them a labour quote and list of materials, I get the response along the lines of "wow, that works out nearly the same as company x wants, I was expecting like 20 quid if I bought the stuff".

Well, I reply, I'm also a business and have the same overheads in various insurances, equipment, etc. as company x, why should it be a cheapy job?

is what makes me think along these lines, y'know, it's a sideline so "I'll sort you out with a good drink"...
