I've had this Evolution Rage 3 mitre saw for a few weeks now and cut loads of aluminium, but not much steel.
Cutting some 30mm dia 3mm wall tube and it started out fine but slowed up on the back of the cut, pressed down a bit more and it cut thru. Next piece it would hardly touch, bit of force and the 1mm deep cut just glowed red...
Bad News: bye bye blade
It's about now when I wish I'd have kept a scoresheet on how many bits of metal I'd cut thru - lots of ally as I said, but I guess less than 2 dozen bits of mild steel.
Was a bit miffed. Not only 35 quid for a new blade, but a 1/2 hour trip into town tomorrow.
Anyhow... decided it can't hurt to try and re-sharpen it.
After having a real close look, I decided to sharpen the teeth and then trim a little off the 'guard' bits (see picture) - seems a bit like a chainsaw tooth if you get my drift.
The angle for the teeth is pretty fine - I just held the centre hole just off centre and ground as little as possible to get a new face.
I then just trimmed a teeny bit of the 'guard' back edges, probably about 0.25 to 0.5mm.
Good News: Cuts steel lovely again
DISCLAIMER Dicking about with your Rage Blade could be dangerous, if it shatters into 1,000's of razor sharp pieces flying at 3,000mph and kills you horribly... don't come crying to me.
Yours,
Tony Wilk
