Race Simulators.

Thought I would try and pull some information into a thread so we can perhaps work together to identify plans and info that we can use to build a race sim.

Have any members had or have experience of building a motion sim. Or indeed just pedals and wheel etc.

Il be honest. A decent off the shelf direct drive wheel load cell pedals and a decent shifter paired with a vr headset is about as immersive as it gets.

That was pcars2. Moved to automobilista 2 shortly afterwards. Much less forgiving.

I debated building pedals in the past but there's so many options these days I wouldn't bother. Cheaper and easier to buy. .


Motion seat would be where monetary savings could be made.

yeah been down the race sim but in end didnt bother

however i think that build is highly wrong too much height and drop at the front

the rear only needs a ball whilst using those motors and can achieve the lift as you accelerate and also the drop as you brake the same as when your cornering as you would in a car

if you look at the rear of this you will see what i mean by just a ball, the lift and bracking action is over the top really not needed and dosnt act like a car

Cool thread. My son has one of the Red Bull PlaySeats with a Logitech wheel and pedals on a PS5. Its pretty good. No motion but feedback in the wheel. Motion would be great. Maybe someone needs to buy a secondhand flight simulator and adapt the platform.

feedback or vibration through the seat and steering wheel would be better and that you can get from a spinning motor and an offset weight

this has a much better look to feel ratio than the others above

My 50+ year old nephew is a sad little **** who has a full racing rig one end of his lounge. x3 32" screens and even a fan so he can feel the "wind" on his face! He "races" in proper boots, overalls and driving gloves etc. He'll often come to me for the odd fixing or to go and re-tap the frame etc.

I've gone round and he's come out sweating. "Yeah, I've just done X laps at Le Man's". This when he's DIY jobs to do piling up.

Each to their own I guess and if it takes people away from their problems.

I was involved with the Project cars series, moderated on the development forums for the first 2 instalments, as well as the public forums when the games were released.
Built myself a sim station which would double up as a work station without having to unclamp a wheel etc.
The monitor swung up and the wheel slid backwards behind it, then monitor back down and a keyboard on a separate drawer pulled out.
Sat in a Metro GTi seat on a base I made to retain the slider.

Only had an off the shelf wheel/pedals, but built a button box, gauges and a couple of gear shifters, sequential and 'H'.

Not touched my setup in years really. Just lost my enthusiasm for it....

The H shifter I made ... heath robinson but it worked well.

I never made it beyond a mock up. Lost Interest.

These days I have a folding stand with wheel pedals etc attached. Can bring it anywhere downstairs and just run my 10m displayport/usb harness to it and play in vr.

I was about for the original pcars beta too.
