@Barking Mat I'm not in the least bit jealous.....no really....not even a tiny bit...
Yep, that's what I'm thinking, I've found (or @northwest sent me a link), to one on amazon, but the only review is damning, and I watched reviews on the run out on Chinese ones last night, and that too was damning.
Yep, I completely agree. Nothing coming out straight.Right you need to get your head trammed in on both axis absolutely bang on. 2 thou isn’t gonna cut it. You need it to be a few tenths/half a thou.
Then you need to tram your vice on the fixed jaw. Not the moving jaw.
Now wind the moving jaw all the way out. Then put your clock on the flat of the vice.
Wind the table left and right and back and forth.
See how flat it is in both axis.
Blunt tool or speed too fastYep, I completely agree. Nothing coming out straight.
Will attack.
Brad, mill chatter, technique? Gibbs? Blunt tools? Half nut?
Really appreciated. Thanks.
Blunt tool, I think, I was going in low box. Wondered about going faster.Blunt tool or speed too fast
I’ll dig through some cutters tomorrowBlunt tool, I think, I was going in low box. Wondered about going faster.
Thanks.
Need parallels, or something better, than what I had, nice technique, but need to check 'everything ' is straight first as Brad says. And get some sharp tools.
You kind soul, thanks.I’ll dig through some cutters tomorrow
That's a damn good idea, we have heaps of smallish bearings, d'oh.Depends on the width of your stock, obviously, but I keep old bearings races. They make good parallels.
