R-tech uk made ?

Got an email recently from one of the welding supply places over here, with their latest offers. They had r-tech inverters on special and in the top corner of every picture of the different welders, they had a little union flag with "uk made" on it.

Is this a mistake or are r-tech now making welders in the uk ?

Don't know about UK built, I was always under the impression that they were imported but checked over or modified by R-Tech

I think they mean "Re-made"...or they maybe are being clever and importing all the bits and putting them together in the UK thus labeled "made in UK", a bit like Vauxhall cars being built here and 80% of the bits are Polish made

Wholesale welding stock them but it's cheaper to buy off them direct on the bay

Rtech welders are a generic machine made in the Far East and rebranded in a few various colours. Iirc everlast the USA version is a green rtech. The uk bit is the support and back up you get and pay extra for on your purchase. This isn't a bad thing because I'd certainly pay extra to know I've got an agent on my doorstep as a point of contact if I run into difficulty. Now regarding the whole modified/reworked thing I personally say that is nonsense. No way are they going to have a machine made in China to one specification only to bring it over here and rebuild it to another. If they were not happy with the original specification they would have it "modified, changed, reworked," at the stages of manufacturing. I can quite believe there may be some QC involved and it's possible it's done to every unit but more likely on a random selection from a batch. This QC however is not going to be any more than covers off and a check over for loose connections/fixings that can occur in transit. I don't want this to turn into a typical rtech argument and what I've said I don't want people to think it's a negative post on rtech because personally my recent experiences with there machines have been very positive.
However been realistic rtech would not be in business very long if they pulled apart all there machines on delivery and rebuilt them in the uk with higher quality components/design. Its just not practical.

ALAND Welding in Beijing is 99% the producer of (some?) the machines that are branded as R-Tech in UK, LCD Vision in Germany, and under many different other brands around the world. ALAND seems to be just an OEM factory, without international sales of their products, as there are no Google results of their branded products in the Western countries.
Maybe they ship to UK the machines in-complete, so R-Tech may fix only some screws, just to be able to stamp them "Made in UK". I really don't know if this practice is common and legal in UK, but many Chinese products are imported in EU like this way (semi-finished) and later are marketed as "European products".

You are pretty much correct Richard.

However it used to be the case they were retrofitted with upgraded electronics when volume was smaller.
This is still done with at least one machine.

As the volume increases the supplièr will offer to build more and more to your specs so less reworking is required but QC is taken seriously and as far as i am aware they come with a used gun....
