why what does it matter how reliable they are. if you have a legendary customer service.
There are many many variables that people will decide on what they buy. How they buy it. What extra warranty. what they weld . when they weld. they all impact your decision.

It doesn’t matter how reliable something is, are you pulling my leg? The customers pay for the legendary service, it’s factored in the price and the less reliable they are the more they have to charge to cover the costs.

I don't think John mentioned any brand when he made his comment. I would guess he would say the same for any vendetta against any particular brand.

You're assuming and dreaming here,.there is no agenda or vendetta against any btand.

I’m going to butt in.
I’ve got a tig welder, and plasma from rtech. Granted my ability is the limiting factor. I can’t complain about the products. Every time I’ve had an issue I’ve called them and they have sorted it out promptly and and courteously. Ok might be a tad more expensive but the support and back up for a novice / hobbiest is invaluable. Just like all the support offered by this forum.

Thanks for all the input chaps, most of it has been useful Listening to your comments I have decided to up my game to either the RTech 210/260 or the Oxford Tigmaker 220. Both are around the same price with one being digital with a 3 year warranty the other analogue with a one year warranty. This leads me back to the original question, what are the pro and cons of the digital interface?

There legendary service was prooved today, my rig was delivered to them yesterday and already fixed and packed up on its way back to me.

Turned out to need a new pcb and cost £112 for the repair.

To say I'm chuffed with that would be an understatement.

I’ve read far more failures regarding Rtech machines than I have from any of the units coming out of the WTL factory. Parweld, thermalarc, and others have a lot of the cheaper machines manufactured in China by wtl and as far as Chinese machines are concerned they are reliable. Rtech have gotten better with the digital range but you still read more failings on their machines than you do on WTL equipment. Where Rtech shine is the no Hassle warranty system they provide. As they only deal directly they can support directly which is why they can offer the warranty terms that they do and get a good name. You might of had your plasma a good while but this is one of there more common failing products..

Yeah thats why i didnt go for their welders because alot more can go wrong there but their mts255 what ever its called is good from what i heard although the auto mig can be off on its parameters especially on alu.. but i dont doubt they will last a good while before you get a board failure etc..The only thing im worried about my plasma is the HF backfiring on mine. but no the parweld ac/dc is something i seen alot of about.. boards blowing etc i think from improper use though most the time but SIP seem to be okay. i had one of their small arc/tig machines for a year welding 6mm steel projects and the only thing that happened was blowing the fuse on the plug which was my fault.
