Hi All,

I'm looking at getting into welding after a few years of working on cars and welding is one thing i get asked for frequently which i dont have capability for.

Looking for a 'well priced' TIG welder, mostly for Stainless exhaust fabricating.

i've been doing a lot of looking around and research and i've found this

R-Tech TIG160PDC

Does anyone have any experience with this machine in terms of quality and reliability / R-Tech aftersales support etc And will it be suitable for welding 2mm stainless exhaust pipes?

only occasional use though

Well not that specific machine but I have just purchased the R-Tech 140 MMA, I was undecided between that and the TEC Arc 165, in the end price decided it for me plus R-Tech offer a 2 year warranty.
It arrived yesterday and I am delighted with it, great performance and really nice to use, obviously time will tell but the firm do appear to be here to stay and I have heard they stand by their products and warranty.

The TIG160PDP isn't a bad machine that will do everything that it says on the tin, and rtech are a good company to deal with.

However, one thing with that machine (if it's the same as the one I've seen) that you might (or might not) find annoying, is that you can't set the amps accurately without striking an arc, I mean you can turn the knob to set the amps, but it doesn't tell you on the LCD screen what they're set to until you start welding, which is not really ideal when welding thin SS where so much as an amp or 2 can make a difference.

im a total novice so i think setting the current properly is something ill have to learn over time.

what im most worried about is that the machine is capable to welding the 2mm stainless exhaust tubes and other automotive bits.

I'd hate to spend £350 and it not be suitable
