I'd been thinking about buying a welding helmet with PAPR but replacing my current Optrel with another Optrel would be spendy

After looking at few reviews I bought the R-Tec Spiritus Air Pro

1st time I used it I was completely underwhelmed with the quality of the optics but as life was busy i didn't investigate further

Today, I dug it out to have another go and after taking it apart I found out the problem



I am officially a plonker, once the protective film was removed the clarity is excellent

Do I like the mask? Yes the optical clarity is very good downside is the lid is heavy compared to my Optrel but my lungs will definitely thank me for buying it

You are the reason these things usually have 'REMOVE BEFORE USE' stamped across them.

i think that is the same unit thats in my mask, im very happy with it. not sure if the spiritus is heavier than mine (speedmaster copy, basically the same shape/design, but i dont find mine all that heavy

You are not alone I put a penny disc battery into some thing the other day….didnt work, a dud blast in the bin. Fits another but removed the protective film first.

If you'd bought a speedglas helmet, you wouldn't have had that issue because they'd send a little elf out to commission it for you.
