@rikrobson - compare the rtech 180 pictures...
Don't think it will be too long now before its in the forum rules with politics and religionThat's the point, it's support you're paying for.
The strength of feeling generated as soon as the rtech dogma is questioned does make it look like the 'R' in r-tech stands for 'religion'
Guys let's be realistic about it - does it really matter if they are reworked or not? It appears to be a rebadged generic Chinese welder yes? You are buying a Chinese welder with support and backup. They certainly don't change from mosfets to Siemens igbts. The thing is clearly made like that to an established spec
If the thing blows up and rtech fix it under warranty then the extra 400 quid might have been worth it in someone's eyes?
If you buy the other one from
rubberdogshit. Com and it blows up but you payed 400 quid less for it then you fling it in the bin and except that's the gamble
Does this face look bothered. He was not my employer....I worked on commission I never got paid......
When I spoke to a major welder supplier here who were going to be sub dealers, they told me they had loads of r tech failures and declined after that to be a dealer.I wonder if the Everlast welders available in the US, which seem to me to be exactly the same as R-Tech other than cosmetics differ internally to any degree? Maybe RT welders are indeed upgraded, as from US forums it seems like the Everlast ones do appear to have a fair amount of issues?
I completely agree Danny. Nice to see you had the covers off to make a visual comparison. I have upgraded from the R - tech 251 now to the GYS 220 AC-DC tig. That's a 2200 quid machine and a big step up the ladderi have an R - tech 251 i also have some tig mig stuff. a mate has recently bought the Tig mig machene thats the same as my r tech 251.
makes you feel a bit sick at paying the r tech price. the r tech hasent been trouble free but not worth sending back, it's had issues with a few things comeing loose, we've had the covers off them both and they look to us like exactly the same machene one is blue one is red.
imo the R - tech is midrange chineese rebadged with support. the tig mig unit is midrange chineeses with less support but substally cheeper.
i would buy the Tig mig machene as it's an exceptional machenen for the money. i would not buy the R - tech even with the support as the machene itself is a bt lacking i would rather put more to the R tech price and get a pro machene. that way you get a machene that has a much better AC fucntion and proper support as well

Much crisper hf, outstanding arc quality, huge set of welding variables including mixed acdc. It's very gooddepending on how work goes i'll proably be doing simalar to yourself, tig is so much nicer and cleaner than mig work so trying to find myself enough tig to justify a nice upgrade of machene, how do you find the GYS on ali comapred to the r tech ?
I have my own Parweld pro grip torchSomeone I know has a GYS220, and other than the rather nasty torch, it seems an excellent machine, and welds very nicely. In terms of issues with Chinese welding machines, I would guess that most are due to highly variable quality control, or maybe even simply which factory the parts are sourced from? Price of the name brands is high enough to cover the cost of what must be the suspected return rate. No name stuff sold on Ebay is much lower price, as I would be very surprised if they would be likely to accept returns.
4 to 5 hundred pounds, depends because tig mig are usually bidding and no fixed priceWhats the price difference between my R-TECH 161 and the equivalent TigMig?
Ah well, i guess ive paid for the 2 year warranty. Never mind, its piece of mind cos its not in frequent use, so it not likely to go pop early on.Several hundred pounds, depends because tig mig are usually bidding and no fixed price
The r-tech 161 is 750. I seen the equivalent mig tig end at 300 and something I thinkAh well, i guess ive paid for the 2 year warranty. Never mind its piece of mind cos its not in frequent use, so it not likely to go pop early on.
Are you saying the TigMig is like a £400 machine and the R-Tech is being sold for £900?
