R tech or jasic??

I wanted to jasic as have a local dealer, wont let me demo a machine though, now looking hard at the R-tech 210A ac/dc. im gonna me welding mainly ally and the weld appearance is going to mean hell of a lot to me that's why im so bothered about the frequency control. any recommendations please??

I have just bought the rtech 250amp ac/dc tig set as i have not heard a bad review of the set or the company

just been looking at these my self on there website, could you weld thin stuff ok with the 250 as I see the amps don't go down quite as far as the 210A model but guess you will have less problems on the thicker ally?? somany things to consider before taking the plunge its driving me mad

Mark, I feel your pain...ive being scratching my head for the last few months trying to decide which tig to buy.. finally took the plunge today and bought a 210 rtech powertig off dylan.
never spoke to him before but he was very helpfull. Told me answers to any questions I had, explained the differences between the different machines.
should have it around the middle of next week and will do a review of my opinions when I get it setup.

By the way, what turned me against the jasic welders was the plastic cover on them. Think they look like a handbag...

Says it all really. If you go to r-tech you can try them there...or there are many people on here who have them you should be able to a test of one easily enough.

Frequency control is not really going to make your welds any more visually appealing to look at.
What it dose is when you increase the hz your squashing the ac wave making it jump between the 2 polarities faster, the effect is the arc is narrowed and more focussed which helps a lot when welding fillets or thin gauge Alu.

I agree entirely that it's a must have feature if your taking Alu welding seriously (I always use it on mine ) like with all variables and conditions you must understand what they do,
how they work and the effects on your welding. Only then will you really appreciate your machine

Not just the ac frequency thats makes the difference, i'm constantly making frequency changes to suit types of weld but you need to also combine it wth the ac balance,
with the two you'll find the sweet spot and the appearance you're going for.

I don't tend to move the balance much on mine, 10% variation at the most. I'll tend to have 70% dcen with a 1.6 and 60-65% with a 2.4. I use the hz much more and can vary that from 50hz-110hz

Tend to move the balance a bit depending on material,
Like to only use just enough cleaning so that the tungsten stays more pointed to get more benefit from the focussed frequency,
I often have the frequency up to around 150-200 on jobs that need a tight arc and about the 100 mark on general stuff.

I'm the same in the respect I like just enough ep for cleaning and no more. 120hz is as far as I need go for thin gauge work and fillet joints.

60hz is basically no adjustment as thats what all the non adjustable are set at.

My machine goes up to 250hz and some go up to around 500hz but realistically around 150 is enough to cover most stuff.

Had the older version, its a decent machine for the price.i would choose the newer version over the jasic on spec alone

Yeah I know a few dealers like that- I don't buy welding plants from them! Wrexham aint to far from Manchester and Wilkinson star I know if you speak to them they will let you try what they do "jassic" among others (via your dealer normally)

You cant have ac frequency on dc.you are probably seeing pulse frequency specification
