Hey there.
Newbie on this site but felt i had to join just to rave about the new bit of kit i purchased last week. The r-tech 180i mig welder.
Ive been a fabricator for the last 10years and as a rule i have always used kemmpi or migatronic 3 phase transformer mig welders at work just because of the reliability and the power and at home in the garage a 13amp super kempomat 220b ( fantastic machine for its age) but it had to go because i needed more space and to be more mobile.
So i spent about 6 months researching igbt welders and quickly realised the market is flooded with cheap chinese/ebay and amazon crap! A 200 amp mig welder for £250 and sometimes less, ALARM BELLS srarted to ring.
So i finally settled on the r-tech machine. My work got the all singing all dancing model, so i had a play around with and its awesome! Went home and rang r-tech direct. Proper good sales team and really helpful. Arrived next day, plugged it in and got to work.
Had it a week now and its faultless, the fan is a little loud but hey ho. Made an engine stand from 80x40 4mm rhs box steel, got full penetration on every weld, very little spatter, good clean fillett welds all day long. Gonna have to get another binzel torch for it cos the torch supplied just doesnt feel right in my hand (its a little bit too small for me) other than that its tip top. £498 all in and a 3year warranty collect and return policy. Well happy!
