R-Tech masks

Have you actually tried one? Seems that the people on this thread who have used them, rate them.

I dislike the look of modern MG cars (perhaps the RTech equivalent of the car world!) but I wouldn't state that I had an opinion on how they drive, if I've never driven one.

ive not used the rtech specifically but ive tried other low cost china masks. likely in the same legue as rtech (certainly not any worse). they work but for not much more money you can get one of the lower budget speedglas so i see no reason to bother with the low cost china stuff. miller ,lincoln ,esab , also offer low cost options that wouldnt cost much more than rtech. if i read it correctly , rtech has only 1yr warranty and 4 light shade. i personally wouldnt want that mask if it were free
pictured is low cost china. it works but theres not one good reason to choose it over something like g5-03e which isnt that much more money.

Does it still need to be switched on?

they have many models. some need switched on. some are auto on. if you can remember to put on your pants every day then its no trouble remembering to switch it on

I'd hardly put my 'todger on view' forgetfulness in the same league as arc eye.
It was just an enquiry.
I use an Optrel myself.

arc eye ? LOL. sorry but youve been misinformed. that happens to a unprotected eye. but with the helmet down theres always uv and ir filter in place. ya it might be extra bright but its not arc eye.
heres the thing about welding helmets. they all can get the job done. some cost more than others. some last longer than others. some eat batteries faster than others. some dont work well outside. some have small fiddly knobs. some are more comfortable than others. some are heavier than others.
spend your money how ever you want.

So, if I can get a Speedmaster XL for £67, which on paper beats a G5-03E, what is it about the G5-03E that would make you spend £180 on that instead? Genuine question as I don't have the luxury of experience or being able to turn over both in hand in front of me. It's more comfy and is a bit brighter when not welding is what I've gathered so far?

one shade lighter is a big deal and worth the extra money in itself if you ask me. even half a shade brighter is a nice improvement. but beyond that , if i had to wager which one is still working fine in 10yrs ill have to put my money on the speedglas every time. how comfortable the head gear can be a matter of opinion but i think the better built head gear would be speedglas without a doubt. also there doesnt appear to be a shade 5 on the rtech for torch cutting or low amp tig or plasma. the sealed buttons of speedglas would also be far more resistant to water or dust

Appreciate your input, I can see where you're coming from. I think I'll bow to experience here and I'm now floating between:

R-Tech's Speedmaster PRO HD (1/1/1/1, DIN 3 light, 4-15 dark) £129

ESAB's Savage A41 (can't find an optical rating but assuming 1/1/1/2 for now? DIN 3 light, 8-13 dark) £114

Or the Speedglas G3-05E (1/1/1/1, DIN 3 light, 8-12 dark) £180

Decisions decisions.....

it has shade 5 for cutting as well. along with adjustable friction and parking in the head gear knobs like the 9100 helmet if youve used one of them. it does power off after 1hr of inactivity just so your aware

they tried to keep it affordable so it doesnt have all the features some of their higher price stuff has but it still has all the essentials you need and want. real color. grind mode. alot of adjustment in the head gear. 5shade for cutting. wide range of sensitivity and delay adjustment. batteries will last years with the auto off

Yeah, I thought I would be really clever and see if I could get an empty G5-03E and put one of the bigger fancier filters in instead... Nope, turns out a huge chunk of the cost of a mask is the filter lol. The G5-03E with NC filter is cheaper than buying the same filter by itself?!
