R-Tech Foot Pedal Has Died

R-Tech foot pedal died this week, it's about 2 months old, say you set the machine on 60 amps, press down fully, you only get about 30amps according the readout. Result, hardly any heat into the piece and no pool.

Have emailed R-tech and await their advice.

The construction really is shocking. Not a bearing in sight, plastic components, metal that it really too thin.

I had an r-tech for just over two years and did a fair bit of work with it and mostly on the pedal,

Also thought the pedal was not the best quality but then they are cheaper than a lot of other pedals,
One mod i did to mine as soon as i got it was to redrill the hole in the casing for the return spring for less tension as it was far tougher to depress than any other tig i'd used in the past,

Maybe that small mod extended the life of the pedal a bit?

If you think that is cheap look at the SIP one's Now they are cheap.
A switch 2 gears & a pot you don't know your borne
Cant find the photos I took of the SIP but believe me for the money it makes pay day lenders look good.
Has it jumped a tooth or 2
Still surprised the earth wire (green\yellow) is used as control wire

R-tech had a problem with some foot pedals a while back. They replaced them free of charge so I am sure they will sort you out after the holidays. I am sure they will be very interested as they switched supplier as the quality was a lot better on the new ones.

Can you take a picture of the complete pedal the top of it. I will check if its an old or new type (as far as I know)

Mine failed after a couple of months, I whipped the cover off and the gear was slipping on the pot spindle, I nipped the screw up and it's be fine ever since.
Did you buy your pedal? Mine was chucked in free with the TIG. When you look at the cost of a Miller, Lincoln etc pedal you could buy a cheap TIG for the price.

We have the rebuilt\ designed SIP pedal made, testing today if it works ok will post picks the most expensive single bit was the pot used the sip case & wires, I know green & yellow!! will change that in final design.
The spring in it was a killer strong enough for a train buffer.

The rivers are up but they haven't flooded the moor yet, won't be long though if the rain continues as it has been.
We have gained a new stream through our woods though!

You could say that about any quality tool vs cheap Chinese stuff. The pedal for an EWM retails for around £375, and that is too dear but for the price/value/quality you're hard pushed to beat a Lincoln pedal. Easy to work on, good materials, effective cable support/gland, military spec amphenol connectors (no rubbish) HO7 heat resistant rubber flex, quality micro and a nice big robust pot. I wish more manufacturers got it right like that.

Dunno if they still are but the OEM Lincoln pedals used to be made by SSC Controls, nicest pedals i've ever used. That Rtech one looks to be a pretty blatent copy of one albeit cheapnesed everywhere

I had a couple of pedals made by SSC in the USA,Really nice bits of kit, as Hotrodder say they make the original pedals for Lincoln and other major manufacturers.The chap I arranged it with was their technical manager I think called James Moll, nice helpful guy.
