hi i'm looking a at buying this http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/welding_equipment/Special_Offers/Tig_Welders_R-Tech_Tig160PDC-SALE in the next couple of weeks or but am i rightin thinking i can't fit a foot peddle to it?

I think pedals can be adapted to most TIGS, give them a ring and say you are trying to decide between this one and another suppliers model, they might chuck a pedal in as a sweetener.

The earlier dc r-techs weren't able to accept a pedal but some have said on here that the newer ones can,

@chevy2 that's my understanding, i've emailed them, on the website it says the uprated model now accepts a foot pedal, but it's an extra £50, is it worth spending the extra? then spending an extra 100+ on a pedal?

I'd say definately yes get the uprated machine even if you cant stretch to the pedal right now,
but believe me once you get used to the pedal you'll wonder how you ever got by without it,

I can run either a variable amperage torch, a switched torch or a pedal,
i do probably 90% of my stuff with the pedal.

ok cheers bud, will have to look into it, i'll see what r-tech says in the morning just to make sure i've not got the wrong end of the stick, would really love the ac/dc 160 they do but now way finances can stretch that far

I'd go the extra and get the pedal, I would imagine it makes life a heck of a lot easier. I have a new TIG unit, and it has a switched torch with a system of presses on the switch to vary the amps. PITA, I'm getting better, but its still a pain- specially with filler rod, I can see why the pro boys use a pedal when they can and intend to get one when finances permit.
I think as well, the pedal would do away with the need for a switched torch, so you could have a slimmer torch? (and less pipework etc to the torch?).
Remember R-Tech do ezy payments so maybe that AC/DC could be possible.
One thing-I got the AC/DC due to dropping on a deal, I am playing with the ali welding, but to be honest, I cannot think of what I want or need to weld in ali-guess its nice to have the kit to do it though.

happy days r-tech got back to me earlier and it can take a pedal, @norlander i hate paying finance on things, if i've got the cash in my pocket i'll buy it if not it can wait till i can my father in law has an ac/dc welder i can use if i need to weld ally or i've got a roll of ally mig wire i can run through the mig just need to get a teflon liner (roller came with the mig) the thing is like you i can't really see a need for ally welding but want it lol

I'm with ya on that, I have taken up interest free finance a couple of times-but if the easy payments aint interest free, then I am not interested.
Think you will well pleased you got the pedal,enjoy the new welder.

cheers bud buying it in the new year, can't afford a pedal yet as loads of stuff to buy, gas, filler rods etc but hopefully in a couple of months will get one

i see @doubleboost is liking my comments funnily enough it was your review on youtube that swayed me, will tell r-tech too
