Hi all.This is my first post on here and am looking to learn alot from you all,so thanks in advance. I am a bit of semi novice and self thought welder, so not that good. I currently have a "buzzbox" as i see it called, 200amp fan cooled and realy unbranded. i have some realy good days and some bad ones, so i am going to buy a inverter welder., I normaly weld box out here in spain which is 40x40x1.5 so i have seen this welder and wonderd if any one thinks its ok for me useing prob 2-3 times a month. ?

1.5mm with an arc welder? That's risky. Not the best thickness for stick welding, i wont weld anything under 2mm, preferably nothing under 3mm with stick.

if you want one though, i have a parweld xti160 with no complaints, its a bit cheaper and you really don't need the extra 15 amps the r tech is offering, especially on 1.5mm

If you have been welding the box section with the buzz box, do you mean your bad days are blowing holes in it or just that's it's not a stable machine to use.

If however you are managing with the buzz box and generally happy enough then you will find an inverter great to use.

I have an r-tech 140 and really like it but brokenbikers parweld suggestion is well worth considering too.

Hi thanks for that. As i am not a welder , i fit air conditioning here and sparks by trade, am not sure what is good to weld with ark or not. but i have had some realy neat welds with the bussbox and some realy bird poo ones, as the electric bounces round here quite alot i thourght the inverter might be more stable, Maybe its just me ? who knows, i think i will go on a good course when i get back to uk. and i dont know what you lot pay but its 12€ for a 6m lenth of 40x40 here, and all the spanish welders use stick unless in a workshop. Fergot to say , 99% of my welding is outside .

The price is not far off UK prices, some of us will get it a bit cheaper and am sure some will pay even more, it varies a great deal depending on the type of supplier outlet.

If your welding is as much 99% outside then arc is certainly going to be your choice if the steel thickness allows it.

MIG using gas would require humping a fair bit of weight around and suffer from the gas being blown away with anything stronger than a very light breeze and even then you may have to use a screen.

I don't think the electrode 'bouncing around' can be accredited to Spain, more down to the fact you are only an occasional welder going through the learning curve, arc takes a fair bit of practice and getting used to holding the rod at the right angle and distance and keeping it right as it burns away, with a course and practice it gets easier.
