Quick Storage Shed

I nearly titled this "Talk Me Out Of This" but for the recent forum request about clear thread titles!

This then is my life. An avid hoarder for around 50 years I fill space then can't move to work. What I lack is the "missing square". No I'm not getting rid of stuff!

I need to quickly create space in my garage, one to sort the electrics and two for my sanity and get a bit of bench space. What I need is a quick, shed sized storage solution. Not a tent or gazebo but something a bit stronger.

I've taken an old greenhouse down so have a space. SWMBO found this. It would at least do perhaps to store the stored timber, metal etc that just get in the way in the garage and shed.

The 5' door height looks a bit iffy, the video in the link and pictures suggest it's taller? I could raise it up on sleepers I have spare:

This is all about something "quick" as I say.

Is it a windy site? Some of these cheap sheds can be rather flimsy.

All-metal sheds tend to be freezing cold in winter, roasting hot in summer, dripping with condensation most of the time unless there are very large air vents (far larger than the little vents in the picture).

I got an 'outsunny' same brand greenhouse and it's been pretty good tbh, though the 'self assembly' makarkey would likely thwart someone without a bit of an engineering background !
this is in a very sheltered spot and has been fine for the year or so i've had it, doesn't look to be falling to bits any time soon.
obviously with a shed youve got more scope to 'beef' it up a bit with some extra bracing as you deem appropriate
TBH as a quick solution I'd go for it.

i will have to build a temporary shed as i have no choice on that matter

but when i do i will buy it in other ways as all parts will have to be reused again

so when im done with the temporary soloution it will then be used to build a permanent shed

I just assembled two sheds for a disabled friend
1x 4mx2,5m =850euros
1x3mx2,5m
both garbage, she didn't want a cheapie....so bought upper mid range....
beware the frame if u can call it that is folded bean cans...
1/2 way thru the build we decided to just use the side panels screwed to a wooden frame and the pitched roof was replaced with insulated norm roof panels....
the Chinese seller gave her 1/2 the money back.....lots of too and froing with them just wanting to give a few quid....she said give me 1/2 the money back or come and collect them.....
Not sure if it was ebay but the return threat got her the money.....
I'd be asking if there was someone near that had bought one for u to look at or just buy something from within the UK......
U can build a decent shed from panels thats easy to buy in the UK....
we used 50x40mm pine to make the shed frame.....
remember....
the low door height ment we built a 3 block high wall to get a walk in shed.....
PS, after all that the rolling door gear could not be used plus we had to make new doors....more work n money....
So all n all, it would have been cheaper just to build our own shed from scratch........
I have to build another for her 6mx4m and we'll make our own shed...

As above a waste of time and money, sheets are so thin they can be cut with ordinary scissors. Also sweat more that a gypsy sitting an exam. By the time its built and made fit for purpose you could of done better/cheaper building from scratch

My BIL bought a similar shed to the one linked and asked me help him assembly, absolute garbage, the sides were close to been tin foil and it didn't matter how many adjustments we made we couldn't get the door to close properly, he knew he would be moving in a couple of years so bought this one as it bolted together so could be dismantled for moving, he left it there when they moved.

My alternative is a hand me down 10'x8' pent roof wooden shed I've had under a tarp for a few years. Needs more than a few repairs for rot. The cladding nails are rusting and boards popping off.

Call me sentimental but it was the SiL's dad's shed. He was a pattern die maker for Molins in Deptford. I still use some of his Imperial taps & dies.

If I put that up it could actually as my potting shed and for garden tools for which I need something.

Trying to fix something rotten rather than just starting afresh usually leads to wishing you'd started afresh.

Some ply, carcassing & roof felt, & you can make something decent fairly quickly, if something simply upto the task is all you need.

Mates sister needed a small shed in her garden. We were going to build one for her - timber frame clad in box profile.
Then one of her 'friends' said they could buy and erect a shed for £200.
I was sceptical and I was right. It was made from paper thin steel sheet over a paper thin folded angle frame.
There was no fear of the shed sweating because there were large gaps at every joint.
The twits that put in the concrete base didn't put a fall on it so when it rains the water runs under the side panels and forms puddles inside.

Pitched roof, 2 x 6' x 4' pallets. Built a double garage with a friend as a quick, large storage shed. Must be 15 years ago, still standing, watertight.
Used broken/seconds concrete fence posts as the perimeter base, levelled on a mortar bed.

Pallets is indeed an option I've thought about. Did one before for my nephew. "Quickest" without buying is likely to be to resurrect the pent roof shed at the moment.

I would not consider one of those sheds mate, my missus bought one for our last garden to hold a few bits and it was dire to say the least.

Got rid of it when I heard a squeaky noise one night, got up, came downstairs and found all the biscuits tins lined up on the window ledge laughing at it.

If you have vehicle access to the area then I'd go for an ex shipping container. You can get 10' ones so would be less floor space than the one shown but at least you won't be chasing it around the garden in the breeze. Even one of the build on site type containers would be a lot better.

I've got something similar to that, and most of the bad points have been discussed already - really thin, rains condensation. The other one is the doors - they're very thin, and because of where the shed is sited the prevailing winds twice blew the doors in - they have folds at either end for strength, but they're so thin it doesn't help. I ended up bolting some old bits of galvanised section - I think it had been the frame to something - vertically in the doors just to hold them in place. Mine don't open properly, but then the base isn't properly flat so that won't be helping.

If it wasn't full I'd get rid of it, but I'm planning to replace the roof with OSB when I get a chance, and maybe put the tin back over the top to keep direct rain off it. Have to be careful though because I'm not sure the structure would take much weight, so I might have to add some sort of frame inside it. Oh, and somehow sort out the base so that the doors close properly - at the moment there's a gap of about 1" at the bottom when they're "closed".

In the time you have spent faffing about the tin foil shed, you could have the wooden shed up and be doing something about its problems.
