Hi guys. Just a quick question I hope someone can answer for me. I need an M10 bolt for a project I'm working on, but it needs to have an unthreaded portion of no less than 75mm. It can be longer as I can always run a die down the bolt to get it to the right length, and then cut the bolt to length. Most of the places I have been looking at list the overall length of the bolt, but don't state the unthreaded length. What length bolt should I be looking for?

The unthreaded length is usually two thirds of the bolt length, measured from the underside of the head. Try a M10 x 100 bolt.

From Machinery's Handbook (27th Edn)
The British Standard gives the length of thread on Hex HD Bolts.
This is measured by how far a gauge ring will screw on,so there's a tolerance of about half a pitch due to part formed thread.
Bolt length measured from under head.
Up to and inc 125mm = 2D+6mm
From 126mm to 200mm = 2D+12mm
Over 200mm = 2D+25mm
From this you can work out the Grip Length.
In a perfect world M10x1,5x100mm would give you 73,25mm
M10x1,5x110mm would give you 83,25mm
