Quick one for the lorry driverists

I am currently drawing up some steel frames. These need to be as large as possible to minimise site assembly time. At the moment they are 8500 long X 1550 wide X 3620 mm at their highest point ( sloping rectangular frames).
I just wanted to check the maximum height of the load (assuming they are loaded onto a standard flat bed ) is below the maximum. I think I read somewhere the max height is 4.95m , but i have no idea what height a standard flat bed trailer is. (none nearby I can go out and measure and I have to get my price in by the morning )
Dont really want the additional expense of a load lower if I can help it ( there will be 2 trips from Devon to Surrey )

5th Wheel is generally 1250mm off the floor. Plus depth of the trailer bed at 120mm, you’re looking at 1370mm.

Unmarked bridges are 4980mm, depends where in the country they’re going from/to and bridges on the route.

Probably better on a step frame.

Annoying thing is they only weigh a ton each.
I suppose if could stick some wheels on em and drag them up behind my T5

I work in ft and inches for my vehicle height but the item you’re making is nearly 12ft high. As already said unmarked bridges are 16’6”
A step frame deck height would be about 3ft high. It’d need to go on a step frame I’d say. If it’s going somewhere with low bridges you could also look into a small low loader with a wafer bed. They would be about 1’6” running height.

There are no trailer laws re height. However you do want to keep below Mway max bridge height & if total height is over 3m then the true height MUST be clearly displayed so the driver can see it from the driving position.

At 8.5m long you will need a long trailer plus rear markers to suit the over hang.

Up to 1m no markers
1-2m a high visibility marker
2-3m the proper markers.
Over 3m not allowed.

Even if the trailer bed is 1m high you are only 4.6m high.

I would use a car transporter trailer as they tend to have a low bed height.

Thanks for the replies, I have spoken to a couple of the transport companies I use , and they both have access to low loader trailers, and are both within the budget I had set when I quoted the job.

We had a very nice lady driver drag this tower up to the north east for us - 18m long IIRC. Not much holding the back part of the trailer to the front!
Back when our yard was tidy!

Will beg to differ on that one Richie, glider trailers are in excess of 7m. With the indivisible exemption you get a max of 25.9m all in.

Sorry you are mis understanding me.

I know the exemption has no limits bar the total length.

I was talking about standard trailers and loads.
