Quick help please

Right just about to do my first ever welds and using gasless (getting gas bottle tomorow ) my question is what do you guys put the metal on to practice welding I have a work mate which is old so not bothered about it would this be ok

Well that was fun 2 burn holes in the bench which kept the metal on fire any ideas lol

Invest in a fire extinguisher

or

get to the local scrappie and get a bit of plate to cover the bench

Got one lol lucky was only small fire what about putting a paving slab on the bench, Cant wait for scrappy looking forward to starting
