Questionable advertising.

I was looking at these Vapour blasters for a mate of mine who's into Motorcycle restoration.
He was questioning this statement.
"As standard the machine is fitted with a 8mm Boron nozzle, this means you can run the machine from a small shop compressor of 7.5CFM or more, you can reduce the air requirement further by fitting a 6mm nozzle if need be. This will mean parts take slightly longer to clean however."

Not knowing much about vapor blasting I thought I would ask you. I do know I need 80cfm to get 50psi out of an 8mm nozzle when dry blasting.

I'd be amazed if that would run for more than a minute before the compressor ran out of steam. My neighbour does vapour blasting and has a huge three phase compressor, because it uses a lot of air... I'm willing to be corrected of course, but it certainly sounds questionable to me..

Was idly chatting to the guy who does my blasting the other day and he reckoned the bigger the nozzle, the more air you need, and its a wider area but not as aggressive.

So the ad sounds about right in a vague sort of way, going by what he said. I agree with Julian though - 7.5cfm is nothing. Air tools use more than that!

exactly and that's what all these wanchors rely on, and how they generally get away with it.... blatant misinterpretation is more like it..

Wild guess: some of you are talking air hole some are talking hole in the front of the gun.
My beadblasting gun has a hole I can get my little finger in, infact the hole might well go out of
the top of the gun now, old 15cfm compressor keeps it blasting at about 85psi and the compressor
shuts off now and again.
I haven't a clue how big the air hole is, I would expect it to be a normal blowy thing sized hole.

I also wouldn't expect vapor blasting to need anything like as much air as bead blasting.

Not that I know anything about it.
