Question for the mot guys

A friend is trying to sell an old 91 talbot motor home. Her husband died and she's not to sure about the details but she got it MOTed and amongst other problems which are to be expected the vehicle has been failed on a brake load sensor missing.
As its is a campervan do they actually need a load valve. It sounds like it was never fitted or was removed when it was converted.
What everyone think of the brake bias requirement

In the real world how does it brake? do the rear lock up under heavy braking on a wet road? as for mot, probably a case of if it was fitted it has to work! I once removed an optional rear roll bar from a car to get it through an mot, cuased a bit of head scratching

If it's been fitted, then removing it is a dangerous failure -

You could try and argue it's never had one fitted, but anything that age would have been fitted with one, and I'd hazard a guess it's probably quite obvious where one has been fitted.

It wasn't until the late 90s where they were replaced by ABS (or specifically EBD - Electronic Brake force Distribution - aka relying on the ABS to stop the rear wheels locking up), that they stopped being fitted to vans.

We have a Talbot of the same vintage, ours has a load sensing valve. They are a devil for seizing up so someone may have removed it......

It's the local bt garage that tested it and yup he's put it doesn't as missing where fitted as standard. the mot history going back 15 years never mentions it

the actual valve is £25 off ebay, so its a mystery at the moment why it got removed

I used to have a brake load valve on one of my polo many years ago, I removed it as it was one thing less to go wrong, I also removed the servo at the same time (for the same reason). both of these should be MOT failures but they have never been spotted by the guys who do my MOT's. On my car the brake load valve was only fitted to sportier models so 3/4 of the cars wouldn't have had one any way. Unless the valve was fitted to all the vehicles of the same types, it could be that the MOT guy has a good memory to remember that it should be there, unless it obviously looks like its been removed. On my car the braking system looks like it would have come from the factory as that's what it is, just for different models.
