most of the reasons for boilers not working are air in the system system needing a reset condencer pipe blocked all simple jobs 20 year ago people worked it out or had more knowledge of basic stuff now a days you pay 20 a month for boiler cover and they phone british gas up for a call out freezing for 3 days untill its fixedIt's still working by the way and is about 40 years old. Mine's 35 years old and I've serviced it twice in that time. All these modern boilers with their sensors, valves and complicated PCB's seem to break down with monotonous regularity. As soon as it gets cold, all my neighbours seem to have gas engineers vans outside their houses. My nextdoor neighbour is now on his fourth boiler since I fitted my first one. He had a problem the other day and I could hear this loud screeching. It was the carbon monoxide alarm. They told him to shut everything down. Three days later they arrive. £85.00 plus fitting and callout from British Gas. I opened the old one which I said he should ask to keep. Soldered a new battery in it and works perfectly now. I told him he should have asked me first.
Must admit to reading for a long time before I joined , and then some before I joined in the by getting involved/postingAnd only about 150 or so that regularly join in or add content, thats a lot of bystanders

No idea if it is easily possible but maybe the private forum should only be unlocked after the "member" has made a certain number of posts. I think that mechanism exists for the For Sale part so it may be easy to integrate, said the man who wouldn't be doing itIt's "private" because joe public and bots can't see it, it's only visible to members.
Yes I heard that......at an alarming rate apparently........Am I correct in thinking that the social media side cant hide behind avatarsFrom the perspective of having run a similarly sized forum for many years:
You can discount the figure for "guests", the majority of that traffic is search engines indexing the content.
Membership will grow over the years, people sign up, interests change and they move on, or forget their details and sign up again. Nothing unusual in a certain level of "churn".
The key statistic is regular active (posting) members, any recent spike in that is likely to do with recent global events as has been noted.
In addition there has also been a general "maker" trend slowly increasing in popularity over the last couple of years which might also increase traffic.
Forums in general are dwindling and being killed off by other platforms such as social media, so to see any sort of growth is very encouraging.
Any particular model of Cat....lol
Hi, I'm one of the 'lurkers'! not posted yet because a search has revealed the answer to every question I've had so far. I like the combination of banter, advice, wot I dun last and lessons learned. Keep it up & I shall continue to lurk until I can contribute something useful or have a question I need answered!
"ban-all-sheds", formerly of the screwfix forum and then latterly on diynot. This was his modus operandi.Electricians forums or those that house them like the screw fix one are the worst.
Any simple question is met with “if you have to ask you don’t know what you’re doing” or words to that effect.
Very unwelcoming. I signed up to one once to ask a question about specs for wiring as in Scotland it’s a bit different. Didn’t get a single straight answer. Politest was along the lines of I’m putting a sparky out of work doing it myself.
Wasn’t intending to do it, just wanted to be sure I knew the sparky wasn’t trying it on!
Many forums have a version of "The Lounge", which is by invite only.I’ve often wondered what’s the point of the priv forum if it’s so easy to sign up to see. Sometimes I feel there should be a veteran priv section.
@Barking Mat
You know what being curious did to the cat.
someone you've invited round for a drink?
You don’t know, what you don’t know as the saying goes......
Maybe it got lost [or intercepted ] in the post - you can blame @Wozzaaah for that.I don't know if there is a Lounge in here. If there is, I've certainly not received an invite
The former......Subject Matter Experts (or Small to Medium Enterprise!)
Had he said it was something complicated like a pipe I would have paid up but electonics they are simple bits
A good man will pass his knowledge on.if the professionals cant help the average guy who is well capable of doing his own work and jobs with a bit of help without climbing on his high horse its a poor doo
