I've worked a couple of times in Port Talbot steelworks...nasty place.
A couple of boys i used to work with were doing a bit of work on a building next to blast furnace No. 5...they went home a bit earlier than usual....good job as it exploded an hour later leveling the building they were in.

I enjoyed the programme, two things struck me: where are the health and safety bods when there`s REAL danger?......and THAT noise from the furnace`s electrodes; the ferocious-buzzing was so loud the guys there couldn`t hear anything else.

I just about did my apprenticeship in an iron foundry - closed down as I came out of my time!

I worked in a few foundries where everyone had to muck in and do a bit of everything. I didn't see this programme but can vouch for the noise from the trodes. There were 3 about a foot diameter and when a new charge went in and they lowered into the solid metal and retracted it was like Dante's inferno.

The noisiest part in our foundry was the "knock out" - a 6 foot square vibrating metal grille that knocked the sand / casting out of the moulding boxes
