Qualters and smith qdm 22

as most will have seen on the today you acquired thread, I became the owner of a q&s qdm 22 drill. I can't seem to find any info it whatsoever, and none of the other models seem to use the same pulley and epicyclic box arrangement this one does.

If anyone's got any info it would be handy, as I need to strip the box out and find out why the lower ratios won't work

The flat bar level lifts up and down , and splits the two halves, inside is an epicyclic box which acts as a reduction box, from what I can see through the gap, it appears one of the planetaries is missing from the shaft

Been there done that, it's not listed on Tony's site and googling brings up nothing. Closest thing I could find was one badged as a Kerrys drill master but it didn't have the gearbox

From what you say you'll have been through this http://www.lathes.co.uk/qualters-smith-drills/ , but have you actually spoken to Tony, he's very approachable and helpful.

Sent him an email about 2 months ago about something else and never got a reply, but will try again with this!

Phone might be better, but be prepared to try a few times as I think he'a one-man-band.

So today I managed to remove the pulley and reduction box, and found the issue. The lower part of the reduction box has a set of pins that, when the bottom part is dropped to engage the low box, engage a pin in the top of the drill casting to prevent it from turning. At some point some rough get has been engaging this with the drill running, leading to the pins wearing and shearing. New pins will be made tomoro
