hi guys, I am looking for your recommendations for quality metric tap brands. I have been using Holemaker Technology impact taps but two busted today and I thought I would look into have some decent backup (go to ) taps

The ones you have are rated @200nm for an M8 Badger, cant see anything else poking up with more than that. Are they losing their cutting edge and binding up?

They have been used a fair bit Bob so I dare say they are not as keen as they use to be. Impact taps do get a beating on the 3/4 Milwaukee gun

I think the M10 was about £28 when I bought it ...... that’s just one lol

Presto have a very good reputation, but when I told a neighbour (retired engineer) that I'd broken a tap he told me to get a good make. I told him it was a Presto, and he replied "get a good make".

All my new ones and most of my old ones are Presto, but I think I'll be looking elsewhere in future.

Presto, dormer, goliath, hall. I refuse to buy cheap tools anymore as they are false economy. In the college i work at they have a load of polish made taps and they are pure muck, looks like the clearances on them are put on by hand by someone standing at a belt sander.

Surprised to hear that, i have some presto tools and they are excellent. I know dormer make some tools in Italy now, nothing wrong with that. But once they head to china or india, they are finished.

^^ I was a bit taken aback too. The one I broke seemed to crumble rather than just snap.

As was said in another thread brand and make have become blurred. All because it says presto doesn’t mean it is a presto made tap as we remember them

Another vote for Tracy tools here. Recently got me a M16 fine for a decent price.

I get L/H drills from there too,experienced staff on phone helps a lot.

Not used their drills yet. I get my from a local Agri place.

I have s asset of Dormer drills, they do the job. But for what I need the Bosch HSS ones are good enough.

I will say, the dormer drills in metric for an imperial conversion are spot on. I liberated a set years ago.

What about a change to roll taps they are much stronger.

Dormer and presto taps and dies and drills make up my entire collection. I’ve no reason whatsoever to look at others.
