quality paint brushes

Looking to purchase quality paint brushes to paint some furnishes!
Any good brand over-there from experience?

Over where? If you mean the UK, ASDA were selling a pack of Harris brushes for a fiver.

Harris was always known as a professional brand, I suspect they now have an economy range to grab a bit of the DIY market, the last one I bought for what I thought was a good price, was certainly not to their normal high standard.

I suspending that what asda is selling will be the DIY version.Not really want to purchase a DIY paint brush.I want something more professional!
Faithfull seems to have some nice paint brushes.Haven't use them so not know the quality.
Is Harris Brush better in quality than Faithfull?

being a painter to trade i use hamilton's and purdys but there not cheep in the slightest.

How much painting are you going to be doing and what kind of paint are you using ? I bought a Harris brush specially for gloss and it does a very nice job, it seems to have longer more flexible bristles than their other brushes. I bought it years ago and it doesn't get a lot of use so is fine for me but looking at the Purdy brushes they are not too expensive for quality work if this is the type mentioned.

From what I have seen on "how it's made" when they have shown brushes being made they explaine that "xx brush has nn type bristles and an insert up inside the top of the bristles to hold tt type paint" So different bristle materials (and mixes of types) are for different paints, Gloss, emulsion, acrylic, ect. Try Wikipedia for brush bristle types

I've been using hamilton for diy around the house and for one reason or another today I used some cheap wickes ones(5 pack).To be honest I couldn't tell the difference apart from price.It also means I can just bin the cheap ones when I've finished instead of cleaning them.I gave the odd sticking out bristle a trim first.No bristle lose either.

mixed are rubbish imo.

natural are good for oil based paints/varnishes ect once worn down. synthetic have real good spring to the bristles and spread rate for waterbased paints eg: emusions ect but tend to have a longer wear rate compaired to natural
