Hi, I'm new to this forum but have spent a bit of time prowling in the background. I'm looking for some advice regarding helmet choice so thought it would be the perfect time to sign up and join in!
I'm mainly a hobbyist and do a little tig welding for friends plus panel repairs with a basic mig on various piles of the preverbial I like to drive (the passenger footwell of my mg zs being a prime example)
Anyway, I'm in desperate need of a new helmet because the cheapo one I've got is totally unsuitable for any tig welding below 60amp. It's so bad I've removed the auto darkening lenses and taped a fixed shade glass in to stop being blinded by the arc.
I wanted to spend £100 but having spent a few hours researching it's clear I should spend more. So I've got a budget of around £200, and I've seen a few which keep jumping out such as the Lincoln Viking and the esab sentinel. Is there anything else worth looking at around that price range? I've seen a couple of speedglas 9100v around the £250 mark but they have a much smaller viewing area and less features so don't seem to be worth the extra money?
Any input is greatly appreciated!
