EasiStart works well - I've used it a few times in difficult situations. Need to inflate quickly when the tyre bead pops on, as the cooling gases from the explosion contract and can suck it back off !

Yep before ratchet straps we used a rope tourniquet, safe and easy, you have to be careful to put the rim into the tyre the right way to get the bead in the well or it won't bash on...

Whats the stud pattern on it? 5x110?

stud on the alfa is 5x110 i think, never really checked, but on the megane it is 4x100 otherwise i would have just swapped the wheels and popped alfa centre caps out

are they the exact same size tyres ? if not you could only use the spare on one axle

yes tyres on megane and alfa are all 205/55r16

i will only be using spare (which is same size on full size steel wheel) on one axle...will have a spare and a bald on front, a decent and a half decent (but still legal) on rear

car tyers will normaly seat back on the beads without issue just start blowing air in and they pop on.

plant tyers on the other hand can be right twerps. over the last few years i've got quite good at poping tyers back on with lighter gas or easystart i prefer lighter gas tho. had a few bollockings for going to do it before as well, only for them to give up with every other trick about an hour later

as you say most do but there are the odd few and as he has no compressor, just a 12v job by the sound of it, I reckon is the easy start method

It must be impossible to do it that way obviously, because it works fine on my pushbike tyres, my motorbike tyres, my discovery tyres, the wife's car tyres, trailer tyres...

16" 4wd / and car tyers ect are really easy to seat the beads on, the lower the profile the easyer the beads seat, more fun it is to get off / on tho.

the beads start getting fun around 16 / 70 R 20 . it's not the big but your not resting it on your knee ether

thanks for the offers of tyre machines etc and all the advice...i will be getting the megane tracked and the tyres put on at the same time on monday probably, and then will be having a go at putting a tyre on the alfa wheel shortly afterwards...i would quite like to have a go with the easy start so that will be my first method...i really dont want to overload my tyre inflator trying to seat a bead as its quite an old one but works like a charm and inflates quite quickly compared to new ones so want to keep it as long as possible...

its a scrap tyre on a scrap car so i cant lose anything if i damage anything
