Purple Socket?

One of the big transformers has a two pin socket with a purple sprung cover. Other than the colour, looks like any other 110v socket, although might be a little smaller.
What voltage is it? What use is it?
Looks like it was added on by the plant sparkey (From it's original home)
Someone said its a high frequency socket?

i used to have a catalouge with all the different plugs/sockets like that in it mate will have a hunt see if i can find it, could be 12v? or as you say high frequency

These purple sockets where used in the last quarry I worked in as a low voltage supply for inspection lamps.

24V SELV socket used for inspection lights and the like in high risk locations such as confined spaces

Plenty of them about in the quarry i'm in as well, all 24v lighting.

Also quite a few white 50v sockets, lighting maybe?

I thought the purple jobbies are only 2 pin though... often wondered what they were about untill i saw them being used to run lights off them while doing a refractory lining.

you can get three pin but are rare
