Pure argon in the s.e.

Dont know if this is of any use to anybody but, here are current prices for Argon here in the S.E.

I have been on the search for Pure Argon to do some aluminium TIG welding work on my Disco. There are no independant gas suppliers here in the S.E. at all. I.E. No rent free options.

I had expeced to find that BOC would be the most expensive with Air Products following a close second, this is what seems to be the case further up north & east and west, I know there are some good independants in west/wales areas...

BUT since Linde Gas have merged with BOC they are by far the better company down here.

These prices are for the large industrial size X, around 11m3.

Air-Products Prices: Fom Globe Industrial Estate in Grays Essex - Argon (X47) 11.25m3

Gas Price: £72.41

Energy Surcharge: £0.84

Rental Daily: £0.27 or

1 Year rental: £80.67

Transaction/Delivery charge: £39.95 (any number of cylinders)

Transaction/Collection charge: £14.95 (any number of cylinders)

All prices are exclusive of VAT

So that,s them out of the equasion then, I would rather travel 100 miles round trip to somewhere cheaper...

Pureshield Argon £38.35

Rental £58.30per year, monthly rental also available at £5.25pm which will be useful for those very occasional users.

£0.90 enviromental charge.

Collection £11.35 All plus vat.

So I will be opening a BOC account with KAS Engineering - I didnt get a price for argoshield light but I imagine that will be considerably cheaper than Air-Products as well.

It has been a nightmare finding Argon at a decent price in this area, but I hope info will be of some use. Prices correct as of 21st Nov 2009.

Thanks old son, sounds good on the surface but a load of old tosh in practice. They do a fully refundable deposit of just £40, so good news there. As you say no rental charges.

BUT refils for Ar is £43 plus VAT this is for a tiny 9L bottle, just 1.2m3. This works out to more than twice the price of BOC...!

UPDATE TO FIRST POST - CORRECTION OF SIZES

According to BOC website a large bottle of Ar is a size "L" although today I was told it is a size "W" for a 11m3 - a "X" is a small kiddy of 2.4m3.

An "X" in Air-Products is a large 11m3.

So corrections to BOC prices/sizes as follows;

We have 3 different sizes of Pureshield Argon ( prices excl VAT)

Size W volume 11m3, refill 68.10, monthly rental 7.35 and an environment and energy surcharge of 1.09p per cylinder. Size 146cmx23cm, weight 85kg.

Size Y volume 4.7m3, refill 50.75, monthly rental 6.70 and an environment and energy surcharge of 0.90p per cylinder. Size 93x20, weight 40kg.

Size X volume 2.4m3, refill 38.35, monthly rental 5.25 and an environment and energy surcharge of 0.90p per cylinder. Size 94x14, weight 19kg.

Fixed charge for delivery is 40.50 or if you decide to collect from one of our local stores you pay a handling charge of 11.35.

ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET PURE ARGON AT SENSIBLE PRICES? I AM BASED IN THE S.E. ESSEX/KENT BORDER ALTHOUGH HAVE FAMILY IN LINCOLNSHIRE SO COULD COLLECT FROM THERE?
