I got my Portamig 185 last year and I've been busy ever since working on a rally car restoration project (on old Datsun) so lots of rust to cut out and new panels to weld in. Ive also put a cage in my 205 and welded various other bits and bobs together.
I am a die hard self taught type person, I just dont like advice unless I really want it and assume I can just jump in and sort it out. I did a lot of reading on here first though. I tend to make mistakes and learn from them. But I think I have slipped into a bad technique.
When I first started using the welder I was nervous about blowing holes, I've been using both lap joints to fit repair panels and also butt joints, I have used mainly 0.8mm steel, where called for I am using thicker stuff. Anyway I started to use a sort of single pulse technique which I read is good for noobie welder types to begin with, which it is...yet Im still using it ! the finished welds look a bit like a TIG weld, I find them really nice to produce and get excellent penetration. But I keep thinking I should really be doing runs rather than these pulse type welds (sure there is a proper name for them) I think I have slipped into a bad technique that looks a bit amateur/noobie ish, OR is this an acceptable technique ?
Any comments ?
